eCommerce continues to grow in Argentina and CyberMonday was the clearest evidence. During the fifth edition, operations for more than 3,100 million pesos and 2.3 million unique visitors were registered.
The online biggest sale of the year, organized by the Argentinian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (CACE), called up 2.3 million people who entered www.cybermonday.com.ar looking for the best offers, apart from those who entered directly to any of the 338 participating companies’ sites.
This edition counted with more participation from the interior of the country, unlike in 2015, when 43% of the traffic came from the country’s capital city (CABA) and this year only 35% came from Buenos Aires City, being a 65% of the total traffic from the rest of the provinces.
“The participation from the interior of the country is greater each year and we are really happy for that. One of our main goals (from the Chamber) is to democratize and bringing electronic commerce across the country. This kind of events prove that Argentina is a country with great potential for eCommerce and that consumers as well as traders are ready to grow in the field” said Diego Urfeig, CACE Executive Director.
Turnover of over 3,100 million pesos at an early stage
Regarding the figures, the event was a success:
- Transactions reached 3,137 million pesos; this is to say 18,154 pesos per second.
- The average ticket in pesos was $3,102.
- 1 million purchase orders were generated.
“It is very encouraging that more than 2 million people passed by our site to learn about the offers that the companies prepare for these sales event and that those people become interested in special discounts which allow them to plan a home renovation or book their next holiday even in a context of economic downturn”, Gustavo Sambucetti, CACE President, remarked.
Mobile devices, the most used
When it came to browse for offers, 51% of web surfers chose their mobile device to do so, over the desktop computer. This means a significant change of habit and highlights the great potential that mobile devices have when buying online. During 2015, 44% navegaron el sitio desde sus celulares o tablets.
Electronics, Tech and Clothing: top searches
The categories that received the greatest amount of visits during the 48-hour-offer were the following, in order of relevance:
- Electronics and Technology
- Colthing and Footwear
- Travel
- Home, Furniture and Decoration
- Sports and Fitness
